IT Delivery VS IT Advisory

#1 IT Delivery VS IT Advisory

Hi All,

I wanted to move from an IT delivery role towards an IT advisory role and wanted to learn what characteristics are required for IT advisory (consulting)? What are the key differences between the roles? Were there any transferable skillsets? Were there any non-transferable skillsets? Any help/advice would be much appreciated as well as personal opinions and/or experiences?

Regards,

James.

Skills like customer handling, management and core consulting skills are definitely transferrable, it also depends on your role in the IT delivery if to say you were an Enterprise/Solution Architect then more technical skills would transferable compare if you were a PHP developer for example.

It also depend what type IT advisory you are doing, for example if you were to assess the performance of an IT depeartment/organisation that would a be different val game
