currently I am a sr mgr at top consulting, would be a director in 1 1/2 yrs and talking to a mid size consulting firm ~800 people. they are offering a position of director, What should be a "make me move" offer from the mid size company? how fair is to ask for a managing director position that my credentials are at par with. any thoughts? also pros and cons if I move??

Mid-size firm. C 800 people. MD grade. Hmmm. Methink me knows who this is.

If I am right then the offer is - frankly - a no brainer. You are about to walk into an environment where your SM experience in a top consulting firm makes you relatively junior - certainly still some way from an MD role. The Director role is in fact a promotion even on the Director role in the bigger firm (assuming my guess is right about the identity of the company in question).

They will have a band. Let them put a number to you. If it is who I think it is they will make that number a good one.
