Currently studying for an LL.M in international law, I graduated last summer from Paris II University. I know that consultants job can be very interesting, and that usually it requires good communication skills, capacity to adaptate fast, and a lot of travel.

I would like to work as such, so if you could give me some advice on the companies, and opportunities it would be nice.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Elise,

I'm completing my MBA in France and considering a consulting firm as well. All the pleasure would be mine to share tips and hints with you, but as far as I understand it, your question is pretty too large : do you have any idea of the type of consulting firm you'd like to join (organisation, strategy, information systems, boutiques) ? What's your background ?

Good morning or evening! I am a french speaker who stood in Canada. I obtained a master in public management. I am currently an independant consultant in state reform, good governance and electoral organisation. I am interested by permanent contract or consultant. No problem to travel. Excellent communication and social skills. Thank you very much for your aid.

I have been sending my application to Mc Kinsey, do you have any opinion on this company?

And where are you taking your MBA?

As a former law student, specialized in international law I know that analyzing and strategy fits me, but I have doubts on whether they need people with my profile...

No doubt about that, McK is far the best ranked strategy consulting firm, but also the place where every top B-school graduates apply first when considering a consultant position. Hence tough competition. However, there are some others quite comparable : BCG, Bain, Booz Allen Hamilton, ATKearney, Mercer Mnanagement Consulting, ... But before applying make sure to be well prepared to crack interview cases. That's probably the most challenging (and frightening) for insiders.

My MBA ? ESSEC Business school.

If you're french and feel more confortable in that langage, I don't mind if you wanna switch. I have a lot more to share on consulting firms. Good luck !

Thank you for your advice!

Anyhow, I went to ISC and ESCAP fairs this weekend, in Paris (travelling a little), and realized that I should make one year in a business school before applying to this area jobs.

The law diplomas are not enought, I think...so I will seek for these positions next year.
